Murrieta Mesa baseball: The Rams had a breakout 2016 season, posting a 27-7 record en route to their first Southwestern League title and an impressive first-time CIF-SS divisional playoff run that ended with the school’s first championship in any sport. In the Division 1 playoffs, Murrieta Mesa defeated third-seeded Orange Lutheran, 6-4, in the quarterfinals. Then, the Rams overcame a 3-2 deficit late in the semifinals to come away with a 6-3 victory over Stevenson Ranch West Ranch. In the championship game, Murrieta Mesa, which trailed 2-1 into the seventh inning, again pulled off another come-from-behind win over Harvard Westlake, 3-2.
